"Field Trip"

Michael came home from work last Wednesday and announced he was taking Thursday and Friday off! What to do? Work around the house or take a mini-vacation? Vacation of course! Oh wait, Dustin had not finished his school work for the week. Did I say vacation, I meant field trip. *wink*wink*

Anyway, we left out on Friday and came back Saturday. I usually jam pack every minute of our trips full of adventures, but I really just wanted to get in the car and go. It was the most relaxed vacation we had in a long time.

One word of advice, if you ever decide to hit the road on a spring break weekend, make reservations for lodging. We went to three hotels before we found one that had a room that was available. I thought Michael was going to have to pull the 'pastor card' and find a church that had a prophets chamber for us to stay the night in.

First, we went to the Texas State Capitol building. All the door hinges in the building look like this! They are made of bronze and weigh over seven pounds each. They were made in the 1880s, but many of the originals were stolen by souvenir hunters or lost in remodeling. Those missing have been replaced with reproductions.

Next, we went to the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. It was interesting to see a time line of Texas History in pictures and artifacts.

On Saturday we toured a cave at Wonder World in San Marcus, TX. DJ and the tour guide discussed the scientific side of caves, and he was able to keep up the conversation. He really does listen in class!
